A True Hero: Irena Sendler

Irena Sendler was a true hero. How she lost to Al Gore...well its a travesty.

"Every child saved with my help is the justification of my existence on this Earth, and not a title to glory" Irena Sendler

Wow! What a story. I can't believe that hasn't been made into a movie!

I guess they are:

In 2005, Ana Mieszkowska wrote a book about Sendler called Mother of the Children of the Holocaust: The Irena Sendler Story. In May 2008, the Hallmark Hall of Fame announced that a movie based on Mieszkowska's book was being prepared and would be aired by CBS. The movie is titled The Courageous Heart Of Irena Sendler. New Zealand actress Anna Paquin will play Sendler. John Kent Harrison wrote the script and will direct. On November 14th, 2008 the U.S. film studio “Hallmark Hall of Fame”, in cooperation with the film production company Gillham Road Productions Inc. started shooting the feature film “Miss Irena’s Children”[14] in Riga, Latvia. Riga Old Town with its cobblestone streets and courtyards was chosen in the competition of eight cities as the most appropriate one for shooting the film about the events, which took place during World War II. It is the first time that a U.S. film studio shoots a film in Latvia. The movie's title was updated. it'll be released on April 19, with the title "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler". -wikipedia

Amazing. Thanks for sharing this with us. I can't wait to see it. Maybe we ought to make the book one of our "Book of the Month" selections.
